Privacy policy

This website

This site has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no cookies of ours. We do not know who visits it.

The online worksheet and step ladder run entirely in your browser. What you type is saved in your browser's local storage on the device you are using, so it is there when you come back, and nowhere else. It is not sent to us or to anyone. Clearing your browser data removes it, as does the "Clear" button on the page. If you share a computer, be aware that the next person to open the page on that browser could see what you wrote.

Printing or saving as PDF uses your browser's own print function. The file is created on your device.

The printable PDFs for therapists are plain files. Downloading one tells us nothing about you.

Hosting. The site is served by Cloudflare, which, like any web host, may keep short-lived technical logs (such as IP addresses) to run and protect the service. We do not access or use those logs to identify visitors. Cloudflare's own privacy policy applies to that infrastructure.

Fonts and other files are served from this site. Your browser does not contact any other company to display the pages.

Links. Articles link to other organizations' websites for further reading. Their privacy policies apply once you leave this site.

The app

Behavioral Experiment ("the app") is designed so that what you write stays yours.

What we collect

Nothing. The app has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party services. There is no server of ours for your data to be sent to, and we, the developer, never see what you write.

Where your data lives

Everything you create in the app, including your beliefs, experiments, ratings, step ladders, and notes, is stored on your device.

One optional feature can copy that data into a cloud account of your own. It is off unless you turn it on, and the data is held under your account rather than ours.

Sync with iCloud. Your beliefs, experiments, and ladders are stored in your personal iCloud account so they appear on your other devices and survive the loss of a phone. This data moves directly between your devices and Apple's iCloud service under your Apple Account. It is never accessible to the developer. Apple's iCloud terms and privacy policy apply to that storage.

Sharing

Your worksheets leave the app only when you choose to share or export them yourself, for example by sharing a PDF with a therapist. Where that PDF goes after you share it is up to you and the app you share it with.

Optional permissions

Links to other websites

The Learn articles link to websites run by other organizations for further reading. Opening one of those links takes you out of the app and into your browser, and that website's own privacy policy applies. The app does not track which links you open.

Turning sync off, and deleting your data

Children

The app is a general-audience self-reflection tool and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

Disclaimer

Behavioral Experiment is a self-guided worksheet and a set of educational articles based on published cognitive behavioral therapy methods. It is not a medical device, does not provide diagnoses or treatment, and is not a substitute for care from a qualified professional. It is not a crisis service, and nobody monitors what you write in it.
